Little five year old Victoria was concerned about homeless people who had to sleep outside at this time of year. Victoria’s mum rang 90 Hope Street and asked what was the best way to help - the team there suggested that a donation of blankets would be useful at this time of year.
The blankets that the family donate to 90 Hope Street are given on behalf of little Victoria who aspires to help all people who sleep rough in the local area.
Thank you Victoria - you’re definately on Santa’s list!
We have been quite overwhelmed by the generosity of local people and organisations who have donated money, gifts, food and clothes to us this Christmas. Starting earlier this month a local couple donated their ‘penny jar’ which contained £50 that they had collected throughout the year. Next we received £50 from Gary Williams hairdressers and had another personal donation of £1000 from a local business man.
Yesterday we were visited by staff from Britannia Building Society at Leek who brought us presents, food and clothes and today GE Power Conversion brought 59 wrapped presents! All of these items will be distributed across our homelessness services to people who otherwise would receive very little this Christmas.
Massive thanks to everyone who has taken the time to think about others, take action and spend their money to make a difference this busy and expensive time of year.
It’s great that we have so many dedicated and enthusiastic people who volunteer for us across the whole organisation in a range of roles including catering and administration. We monitor how many hours our volunteers devote to Brighter Futures and are delighted to announce that for the month of November over 600 hours were worked by our volunteers!
Huge thanks to them for all their hard work during 2012 and we look forward to continuing to support them and to welcoming new volunteers to the organisation in 2013!
