We would like to apologise for a disruption in the provision of the Staffordshire Mental Health Helpline which occurred overnight on Thursday 20th March. The problem was caused by a network issue which has now been resolved. The text and email service were available throughout the period of disruption. The Helpine is now available as usual.
It is self-injury awareness day on Saturday 1st March and throughout the following week Brighter Futures will be promoting Echo, a mutual support service for people who have experienced self-harm. Members of the promotions team will be out and about in the community to raise awareness about the service which is available to residents of Stoke on Trent who are over the age of 18.
Echo offers people who have experienced self-harm the opportunity to talk in confidence to other people who understand how they are feeling. Support is offered in different ways depending on what the individual feels they need this may be by talking with people in a group environment, attending workshops to learn about new ways to cope and getting information about other places that can support you.
Sharon Godwin, who manages the scheme says: ‘Self-harm refers to acts which involve inflicting injury on your own body, there are many forms of self-harm including eating disorders, cutting burning and drug taking. Echo offers mutual support people who have experienced self-harm in a supportive environment.’
Members of the public who would like to find out more about this free service can call in to see the team at Hanley Indoor Market on Tuesday 4th March between 10am-3pm. They will also be manning a stand at the Accident and Emergency department at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire on Wednesday 5th March between 10am – 1pm.
Anyone who is concerned about their or someone else’s self-harm can contact Echo on 01782 683192 or visit the brighter Futures website www.brighter-futures.org.uk
