About Brighter Futures

About Brighter Futures

Brighter Futures provides support to those who require extra help to live independent and fulfilled lives. Our customers are people whose life chances including their health, employability and social skills have been impoverished by the impact of living in deprived areas and on low incomes.

Supporting the people

Poverty and inequality is linked to poor physical and mental health. The associated lack of opportunities creates disadvantage which leads to homelessness, addictions, and involvement in crime. Volunteering, work-opportunities and getting a job, along with good quality housing, skills and good health are integral to the solution. We will offer employment to our customers and we will support people to achieve their goals whether they are staff or customers.

Providing opportunities

Our services respond to needs and focus on outcomes. They have been developed in consultation with customers and the involvement of our partners. They are based on what works. We provide a range of services to people including supporting people to live more independently, providing a range of housing and access to a wide range of opportunities.

Our Values

Values are attitudes and choices that command respect and that generate:

  • Principles to guide us in our thinking and our actions
  • Standards against which we judge ourselves and others

These values are not to be compromised for financial gain or expediency.

passion Passionate: We have belief and energy.
"By believing passionately in something that still does not exist, we create it. The non-existent is whatever we have not sufficiently desired." Kazantzakis

creative Creative: We have new and exciting solutions.
We focus on what works, and creating an organisation that listens and learns. Firmly believing that working with our customers we can find solutions to problems.

equality Equal: We understand every type of prejudice and we fight them all.
All people are equal, diversity creates synergy and we seek to create equality of opportunity, and act in respectful ways towards each other, customers and partners.

empowering Empowering: We help people to have control in their lives.
The key is for people to have control of their lives, giving staff the tools to do the job and everyone the freedom to think and act.

sustainable Sustainable: We act in ways which ensure a long future for our customers, our staff, our philosophies and our planet.
Whatever we create has to be sustainable, whether its independent living, the way we manage the business, how we behave towards one another or how we treat our environment.

Our Approach

Our strategy is underpinned by our beliefs and values. These beliefs include an understanding of regeneration, social exclusion and how poverty affects the lives of people. We recognise that a person's mental health is not fixed for life and given the right circumstances recovery is a real prospect. We also understand what drives aspirations and personal growth and change. We use this understanding to inform our practice; when we understand why, we can understand how needs can be met and how we can create lives that are more independent, happier and fulfilled.

We recognise that we cannot, nor should we, provide a complete service for everyone. Using the universal services available to all the community is important in helping promote independence.
