Our volunteering scheme has been developed primarily for Brighter Futures’ customers or for people who have experience of homelessness, mental ill health, substance misuse or offending behaviour. The aim of the scheme is to help people give back to their community whilst gaining new skills, building confidence and developing a sense of self worth.
If you are not a customer of Brighter Futures but you would like to volunteer we could still find a role for you. Our Catering Network has lots of opportunities for volunteering where you can learn catering skills and work towards a catering qualification within The Clubhouse Network (see The Clubhouse Network in the Mental Health section for more information about what this service offers).
We will be developing more roles over the next few months so if you would like to find out more, please contact our volunteering co-ordinator on 01782 406000 or email jonathan.goodwin@brighter-futures.org.uk
Why should I volunteer?
Volunteering can offer many things including: a sense of achievement, a way to meet new people, learn new skills, find out what kind of paid work you would be interested in and it also looks great on a CV when you are ready to apply for jobs.
Can I volunteer?
Our volunteering scheme is for people who have had past experience of homelessness, mental ill health, substance misuse, offending behaviour or who feel they have not yet achieved their potential. We want to offer you the chance to succeed so having a criminal record won’t stop us accepting your application to be a volunteer.
How do I know if I’m ready to volunteer?
Do you:
Feel more in control of your life?
Have time to spare?
Want to do something worthwhile?
Feel you need to build your confidence and skills and maybe think about getting back to work?
What’s my first step?
Speak to your support team member about volunteering or contact our volunteering co-ordinator who can give you more information.
What happens next?
We will support you through the recruitment process and make sure you have a chance to learn about Brighter Futures and the role that you will be volunteering in.
What opportunities are there?
There are many different areas where you can volunteer from catering to office work so whatever you’re interested in we should be able to find a role that suits you.
What about paid work?
When you become a volunteer you are free to apply for paid work within Brighter Futures as and when positions become available internally. Your support team member can help you to complete the application form.
What support will I get?
You will get support to learn about Brighter Futures and the work we do. You will have regular meetings with the manager of the scheme in which you volunteer to support you in your role. Brighter Futures’ also offers volunteers a wide range of training opportunities that can help you to develop. Our volunteer co-ordinator will support you from the application and recruitment process and whilst you are volunteering for us.
