If anyone can help our Community Champion this would be greatly appreciated – especially Easter eggs. Please directly message us.
My name is Natice Duncan, I’m 28 years old and have suffered from mental health illnesses since I was 13 with my first hospital admission at 16. Since then I’ve had countless more admissions. In the past two years, I’ve had three admissions to our local mental health hospital -ST George’s hospital in Stafford.’
Last Easter I raised enough money to buy Easter eggs for 70 patients across 5 different wards to thank them for all they’ve done for me. Two months later I was once again admitted onto the unit I’ve spent all three admissions on, this time very very unwell.
This unit went above and beyond to help me, they believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself and held hope for a better future until I could have the hope myself. The nurses and healthcare staff in this unit are truly wonderful. Despite being understaffed and stretched to the max they try so hard to make stays as comfortable as possible.
Sadly due to NHS budgets, there is very little to do on the ward, the staff try their best and even buy things out of their own pockets but when in there for months on end the days can feel very long. We all know that when you’re struggling mentally the best thing to do is keep busy and distract your mind and a lot of the time on the unit that simply isn’t possible.
So instead of Easter eggs, this year I’m hoping to provide this unit with lots of activities and items to ease the boredom and distract patients.
If you’d like to help make a difference to patients like me, I have an Amazon Wishlist (When you buy an item it’s automatically removed from the Wishlist). I’m hoping to take the items to them around Easter time.❤️
I appreciate any support, even sharing this post helps 🥰
Thank you! 😊❤️❤️
